J Adams asked "why is it that young children at school don't get a hot meal in the middle of the day... even a hot drink?" (Letters, January 12).

I can tell him. It's simply because West Sussex County Council's 1999 education committee, chaired by Neil Matthewson, voted to axe hot school meals in the county.

And because, in nearly seven years, no one has cared enough, or has had the courage, to right this terrible wrong done to our children.
