Supersub Colin Kazim-Richards wants a place back in the starting line-up after becoming Albion's new top scorer.

The young striker fired his fifth goal of the season, all of them from the bench, towards the end of Saturday's 3-1 defeat at promotion-bound Sheffield United.

Kazim-Richards hopes to get the nod against Burnley at Withdean a week tomorrow after manager Mark McGhee started with Seb Carole and Gary Hart up front for the second game running.

"As soon as I came on I felt I could score," he said. "I don't know why I'm in a battle for a starting place because I'm not losing out to a striker, I'm losing out to two midfielders.

"The gaffer hasn't said anything to me, so maybe that's just how he sees it at the moment. Hopefully the goal will get me into the side and I'd like to get a goal now when I start."

Kazim-Richards' sweetly struck shot from inside the box seven minutes from the end puts him level on goals with Leon Knight, who was sold to Swansea earlier this month, and one ahead of Dean Hammond.

The former Bury forward took the opportunity to swipe back at a mystery critic on an Albion fans' website after adding to his efforts as a sub against Coventry, Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff and Reading.

"I think someone on North Stand Chat said if I got five goals they will walk on the pitch and kiss Dick Knight's bum, so I'd like to see them do that!"

Albion are still fourth-bottom and two points clear of relegation after Leicester lost at home to Cardiff.

Brighton-born Albion fan Paul Ifill, scorer of Sheffield United's second goal, is backing the Seagulls to beat the drop.

"I feel guilty really but Brighton showed their never-say-die spirit by grabbing a goal at the end and I really do think they will be fine," he said.

"I thought Colin did really well when he came on. He bolstered them a little bit."
