Lewes have been warned they cannot forget about relegation, despite beating the leaders.

A 17-point haul, including two tries by Neil Rumble, helped them see off Guildford 32-27 in an excellent London Two South contest at the Stanley Turner Ground.

Lewes have taken 11 points from the last 12 to move from rock bottom to mid-table.

But skipper Dave Hemsley, sidelined until March by knee ligament damage, admits they cannot take anything for granted.

He said: "We can't forget about relegation.

"This division is so tight but at least we have eased our problems.

"I thought it was a good game. There was some good handling and the back row got about the park really well.

"But the key to it was better ball retention. We had more possession to attack with."

Rumble's tries came after fine moves, Nick Giles supplying him for the second. Rumble kicked two conversions and a penalty.

There were also tries for Scott Patto, Tom Saunders and Chris Brant.

Hemsley suffered his injury in bizarre circumstances, playing in the annual New Year's Day game at Newick.

The arrival of New Zealander Jamie Gray has taken the heat off him to come back.

Hemsley said: "Jamie is playing well which means I can make sure I am fully fit before I play again."

Hooker Jason Evans scored three tries from lineout ploys as Haywards Heath won 29-24 at Tabard in London One.

Neil McGovern and Will Harris, back from a trip to South Africa, also scored tries.

Heath could finish the season in the top four though the forthcoming Powergen Intermediate Cup tie at home to Morley is also on a few minds.

The holders visit Whitemans Green a week on Saturday.

Before that, Heath have a home league game with London Scottish for which Dave Wattam and James Arthur look like returning after impressing in a second team game watched by director of rugby Ian Davies.

In Davies's absence, Nigel Baker was in charge at Tabard and he felt Heath always looked like winning.

Baker said: "We could have killed the game off earlier but we always seemed to dominate when we needed to."

Davies resumes in charge of the first team against Scottish while Baker travels to watch Morley play.
