Burgess Hill boss Gary Croydon criticised his players for a lack of character despite his depleted team battling back to earn a 1-1 draw on a frost-bound pitch at Molesey.

It looked an uphill struggle for Hillians in the first half, particularly when they fell behind to a Phil Ruggles penalty after 24 minutes.

The visitors had just brought on Bradley Walsh for Ryan Bradley when a free-kick to the far post was handled by Luke Gedling to present Molesey with the lead.

The home side looked by far the more likely scorers in the first half, when Pat Gannon twice did well to deny Ruggles.

Hillians went close a couple of times, with Gedling failing to accept a chance created by the impressive Ashley Jarvis.

But in the second half the game seemed to be drifting aimlessly before Hillians suddenly roused themselves and during a purple patch equalised through Leo Day on 74 minutes.

They had chances to win it after that but had lost their momentum near the end and at the finish were probably grateful for a point.

Not that you would have thought that from Croydon's comment immediately on the final whistle, however, as he said there was a real lack of character and will to win.

Crawley's Conference game at Dagenham was postponed.
