Thank you for publishing the letter by Verity Gold (January 23). I haven't giggled so much in ages.
I was convinced it was Norman Baker writing under a pseudonym and that if I reversed the text and picked out every seventh letter I would find "Dick Knight is the devil" - but alas this wasn't the case.
As a regular Seagulls supporter, I would like to reassure Ms Gold and her "wonderful people of Falmer" that Albion fans are not rampaging hooligans.
In fact, I can't remember the last time I had a good rampage. Nor do we possess a desire to urinate in Falmer or any other pond. We are ordinary, law-abiding members of your community.
I can understand some of the concerns of Falmer residents but falsely demonising local football supporters just adds to the scaremongering and misinformation.
It is a shame for the people of Lewes District that their elected councillors have chosen to act in an undemocratic manner and I wonder whether they would have been so bold had re-election been close at hand.
I am sure this debate will remain topical for many years to come and when Lewes District residents are eventually informed of the true cost of the appeal to them, I am confident no amount of spin will dig the responsible councillors out of the hole they have dug for themselves.
