As a Brighton and Hove Albion supporter and season ticket holder for 50 years, I must put pen to paper to say how much I enjoyed our recent victory against Leeds United. In the programme, I read that the Lewes District Council's legal action is against the Government, Brighton and Hove City Council and our football club.
I understand the club needs to allow £90,000 towards defending the legal action, which, if unsuccessful, could be recoverable from the District Council's taxpayers.
As a direct result of that council's delaying tactics, couldn't the club have a further claim on the increased building costs created by the delay - possibly six-12 months?
An increase of approximately five per cent must be a realistic figure. I believe the overall cost of the stadium is in the region of £40 million.
Therefore, a claim starting at £90,000 could be increased to in excess of £2 million. In addition to this, could the club also claim for loss of earnings for the added time delay between the Withdean and Falmer gate revenues?
