More than 50 residents have signed a petition objecting to controversial plans to build a waste burner.
The protest was made before it emerged that ministers have asked East Sussex County Council and Brighton and Hove City Council to delay adopting the local waste plan.
The plan contains two controversial proposals: Building an incinerator at Newhaven and a materials recovery facility and waste transfer site in Brighton.
Opponents say alternative choices are available to deal with waste in East Sussex.
Residents from Old Town, Eastbourne, collected signatures in Albert Parade last Saturday.
