I was quite amazed at the review of Yasaray Rodriguez Flamenco Group (The Argus, January 21).
To send, using his own words, an "uneducated observer" to review the show is like sending a classical reviewer to report on Arctic Monkeys - there will inevitably be a gulf of understanding and appreciation.
The show featured one of Spain's new dance stars, as well as a singer who is appearing next month at the Sadlers Wells international flamenco festival.
To call this "the wailing of the singers and Yasaray Rodriguez's foot-clomping" demonstrates a remarkable lack of understanding and professionalism. Genuine flamenco is intense and emotional - and was appreciated as such by the large audiences every night.
The "light-hearted party music" your reviewer professed to prefer is a tamed form of flamenco for tourists.
It would be wonderful if next time the reviewer sent had a basic understanding of what he is going to see, especially as The Argus printed such a thoughtful and well-informed preview of the show a few days previously.
