It's Mozart's birthday today and The Hanover Band is having a get-together in his honour. The concert is timed to coincide with the actual date of Mozart's baptism, 250 years ago.

Although Mozart's death was untimely - just before his 36th birthday - during his short life he made a tremendous impact.

The Hanover Band have chosen to perform some of his most passionate and profound works, all written in his final year (1791). Conducted by Paul Brough, the concert will be a distinguished event, featuring many acclaimed soloists including eminent pianist Nikolai Demidenko.

Works to be performed are the Overture to La Clemenza di Tito, an opera written for the hotly-contested coronation celebrations in Prague for Leopold II's ascension to the throne of Bohemia. Also to be performed is the famous Piano Concerto No.27.

The concert will end with Requiem, Mozart's final work which is shrouded by mystery and intrigue.

Commissioned by a stranger, thought by popular belief to be rival composer Salieri but later revealed to be Count Franz von Walsegg, the Requiem was composed as Mozart became violently and suddenly ill in the autumn of 1791.

The performance is part of the Mozart In Brighton series, which will include concerts by various ensembles, including Sussex Chorus who will perform the Mass in C Minor, Ave Verum Corpus, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik on Saturday at 7.30pm, and the Credo Mass in C, on Sunday at 11am, both also at St Bartholomew's Church.

Tickets cost £25/£15, under-21s £5. Starts 7.30pm. Call 01273 736222.
