I would like to draw your attention to the wonderful care given to my wife, Tanya Lodge, while she was a patient in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

Tanya was admitted as an emergency on November 17 and was diagnosed with pneumococcal septicaemia, a life-threatening infection.

She was unconscious for the first two weeks and still very ill until she was transferred to another ward on December 22.

Throughout that time, all the staff could not have been kinder or more helpful. As well as looking after Tanya, they also took the time to explain to her and her family what was happening.

We were impressed by their outstanding skill and expertise and we know we owe her life to their care. The ITU is a truly exceptional unit. We are lucky to live in Brighton with such excellent facilities and people on our doorstep.
