I refer to the interesting article by James Lancaster in The Argus (Business, January 24) concerning Virgin Trains and Mr Gibb.

James makes the assertion that four Virgin cross-country trains "run from Brighton to Birmingham daily". This is incorrect.

There are two from Monday to Saturday but only one on Sunday, and this stops short at Banbury in midwinter.

We were promised a frequent regular service to the Midlands and beyond by Virgin but it failed to materialise. Southampton got them instead to the extent of one per hour throughout the day, somewhat fewer on Sunday. Brighton is the loser, again.
