Multi-million pound plans have been unveiled to revitalise a golf course.

The directors of Benfield Valley Golf Course in Hove want to create new sports, leisure and community facilities on the site.

A planning application is being submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council at the end of the month but local people are invited to two meetings next week to learn more about the proposals.

A key feature is the restoration of the Grade II-listed barn and outbuildings to create a caf/restaurant, wedding venue, exhibition space and overnight accommodation with on-site parking.

The proposals also include a driving range, all-weather sports pitches and tennis courts as well as a new golf reception area, professional's shop, changing rooms and bar, gym and training pool.

Local public footpaths across the course will be improved and a management plan will be implemented to maintain the wildlife on the course.

As part of the community input to the scheme, the new sports pitches will be made available to Hove Park and other local schools during off-peak times and subsidised golf lessons offered to all pupils.

The directors, Lawrence, Paul and Dominic Boon, Mark Harper and Laxley Pennant, took over the club about a year and a half ago and have spent £150,000 on improving the greens and tees.

Mr Pennant said: "This is the next step forward and we are very excited about it.

"This is something that is going to benefit the community and we want them to get involved.

"That is why we are inviting them to these meetings so they can find out more about what we are hoping to do and we can answer any questions they have.

"We believe it is something which is going to be a great boost to the area.

"We have had support from schools and the councillors we have spoken to about it. We want to listen to people and hear what they have to say."

The information sessions are at Hove Park School on Wednesday, February 8, and Thursday, February 9, from 6pm to 8pm.
