Fish4jobs is the most popular recruitment website, figures have shown.

The site, part owned by The Argus, attracts more than 1.6 million jobseekers a month according to the annual National Online Recruitment Audience Survey (NORAS).

The survey also found fish4jobs was attracting a more diverse audience, with users looking for jobs in a wide variety of sectors.

Fish4jobs.co.uk, which carries more than 40,000 job adverts at any one time, powers the "jobs search" section on www.theargus.co.uk Although it covers most sectors, the site specialises in retail, sales, engineering, customer service, call centre, construction, driving and IT.

Fish4jobs said the sheer volume of jobs it carried meant people could find suitable vacancies wherever they lived - including Sussex.

Sean Mahon, fish4's marketing director, said: "Many other generalist internet job sites tend to carry a heavy weighting of jobs for London and the South-East of England. At fish4jobs we pride ourselves on carrying a multitude of vacancies all over the UK."

Almost 20 per cent of fish4jobs users were looking for part-time work, according to the NORAS survey. Sixty per cent were female and 61 per cent were aged 16-34.

All candidates were big readers of the local press and, more signifcantly, half had managed to find a job on the website.

Martyn Willis, managing director of Newsquest (Sussex) Ltd, publishers of The Argus. said: "We are delighted to be in partnership with such a hugely successful online recruitment service.

"Our research shows that you, our readers, are increasingly using our website www.theargus.co.uk in conjunction with fish4jobs; making our website the first port of call when looking for new, local positions.

"We always strive to add value to you - our valued readers - and our partnership with fish4jobs is one way of ensuring that we do."
