Last Friday I was driving along the coast road between Telscombe and Saltdean about 2pm.

I glanced in my mirror and saw a police car approaching fast behind me with its blue lights flashing.

I know this means I should try to pull to the side of the road to let an emergency vehicle overtake.

I saw other road users do the same as the police vehicle passed.

However, I would like to say to drivers of such vehicles, please use your two-tones as well as your blue flashing lights as the lights aren't easy to see on sunny days.

I always try to leave room for an emergency vehicle to pass me, but drivers must give adequate warning of their approach.

When more and more police vehicles seem to be involved in traffic incidents, all precautions should be taken to avoid accidents.

Apart from anything else, if police drivers are involved in accidents, they will be unable to attend the emergency to which they have been called.

It is noticeable ambulance drivers use their two-tones - let police drivers follow suit.
