Why do I dislike 4x4's? Well, firstly, they are so high off the ground anyone less than 6ft tall has trouble seeing over the top of them, hence making them a real threat to anyone trying to cross the road near where they are parked.

Secondly, parents like to use them to drive a few streets to pick up their children from school. Last time I looked, all roads in West Hove were tarmacked and in good condition.

Thirdly, their low fuel efficency means a greater contribution to global warming.

Finally, the potential extra danger from these vehicles. If a child or adult were to be knocked down by a large 4x4, the chance of survival would be very low. In fact, because the driver is so far up above the road, any small person near the vehicle is virtually obscured.

If you happen to live halfway up a mountain or down a rutted country lane, then by all means have a 4x4, as you need it.

If, however, you just do the trip to the supermarket and take the children to school then get a smaller, more economical vehicle. Or use your legs, a bike or public transport.
