At last we have a clear indication of how the park-andride scheme planned for Falmer will work, courtesy of Brighton Racecourse, which has produced a pamphlet that includes a map and instructions on how to get to the course by car.

This is also the route people driving to Falmer matches would follow for one of the main park-and-ride schemes. The instructions are as follows additions by me in parentheses:

"The racecourse is easy to reach from the A27 Brighton bypass. Head for signs directing you to Sussex University and take the B2132 via a slip road and two roundabouts, past the stadium entrance and then approximately one mile to Woodingdean, turn right at the traffic lights a notorious bottleneck where you meet traffic arriving via Rottingdean and the racecourse is approximately one mile."

Further complicating this would be the fleet of buses ferrying the supporters by the same route to Falmer and returning.

Any resident of Woodingdean would confirm this scheme is a recipe for chaos as well as significant air pollution and damage to the environment, the safeguard of which is Mr Prescott's responsibility.

Traffic problems from other park-and-ride sites would be similar.

The bus company will find it difficult balancing the number of buses needed to get supporters to and from the stadium on time against adding to the traffic congestion.

It would also be interesting to know what the cost per passenger using this service would be.
