Mushtaq Ahmed produced his best bowling performance for Sussex, then set his sights on taking 100 Championship wickets again.

The brilliant leg spinner was the last bowler to achieve that feat when he took 103 in 2003.

He has ten from two games after finishing with 7-64 as the county completed a 95-run win over Hampshire at the Rose Bowl yesterday.

Mushtaq took the last seven wickets to fall as Hampshire, chasing 306 to win, collapsed from 144-3 to 206 all out.

He said: "I have the same goals as any other player and 100 wickets is definitely a target of mine for this season. That's my motivation and I'm pleased with the way I have started.

"The wicket helped the seamers a lot and sometimes spinners can be defensive in those sort of conditions.

"But I was determined to be positive from the start and I was a bit lucky. I pitched a lot of balls in the right areas and every time their batsmen made a mistake I got a wicket. On other days that won't happen."

Skipper Chris Adams was thrilled with Sussex's first win of the campaign and admitted he had a hunch Mushtaq might do something special.

Adams said: "I've run out of superlatives for Mushy. He's a quality performer and you can't keep him out of the game for long."
