Brighton Festival Fringe appears to be nurturing the tradition ofunusual double acts.

Last year we had the impish blonde Caesar Twins in La Clique - and now we've got Japanese comedy mime duo Ketch and Hiropon.

Sporting funky coloured mohicans and matching suits, their full-throttle routine is Vaudeville meets Chaplin with a cheeky Benny Hill twist.

There's bum slicing, infectious tongue waggling, limb stretching and giant-throbbing thumbs.

It's playground goofing transformed into ingenious stage trickery and in the hands of this cartoonesque twosome, it's dazzlingly funny.

Sadly, the action-packed first half is over far too quickly, leaving me craving more.

The next section of the show is strikingly different. Called Boxer, it is a charming, silly yet unexpectedly poignant Rocky-style silent comedy.

The mime is remarkably well-observed and mesmerising to watch. The only problem is concentrating on this more intense story with the ridiculous memories of chase scenes on invisible escalators still gliding through your mind from the first half.

It made me wonder if Boxer should have been performed first, with the ridiculous clowning as their dynamite finale.

Saying that, this is my last show of the festival and having seen 16, it's by far the funniest.

Until, Sunday, May 28. Due to demand there will be an extra performance of Gamarjobat on Sunday at 4.30pm: Tickets £10 and £8, call 01273 64100.
