Stars of this month's Brighton festivals have been honoured with a string of awards.

Japanese mime artists, comedian Julian Clary and an east European symphony orchestra were among prize winners celebrating a fantastic month at last night's event at the Spiegeltent.

The second annual Latest 7 Awards were open to participants of the Brighton Festival, Brighton Festival Fringe and the new Carousel Song Writing Festival.

A panel made up of media representatives put forward their candidates for 16 different categories last week and voted on them last Wednesday.

Angi Mariani, business development manager at Latest Homes, said: "The awards are to recognise all the effort all the artists, local and from further afield, put in to making a good show for the public.

"There is so much work put into the festival every year and we want to celebrate that.

"Last year the awards were just for Fringe shows but this year we have opened it out to include all the festivals.

"We hope to develop them over time and hopefully involve more of the Brighton community."

Last night's awards were presented by Brighton comedians Brian Mitchell and Dave Mounfield, known as the Cheeky Guys.

The audience enjoyed performances from burlesque dancers, comedian Liz Carr, former Squeeze lyricist Chris Difford, who ran the Carousel festival, and Sam Brown, who won the Carousel Award for Best Songwriter.
