I agree with the logic in Adam Trimingham's article regarding John Prescott that even the busiest of people is entitled to a spot of relaxation, so the croquet was of little significance.

However, Labour and the Lib/Dems made great capital out of Tory sleaze when the Conservatives were in power.

John Prescott was very vociferous at this time. Politics is a dirty game with no Queensbury rules. Now the sleaze boot is on the other foot, the Government cannot really complain.
