The first domestic wind turbine in Brighton and Hove could be up and running within months if councillors give plans the go-ahead tomorrow.

Businessman Daren Howarth, 43, hopes to encourage other residents to use wind power if he gets planning permission for the £1,500 wall-mounted turbine which would provide all the electricity for his house in Islingword Road, Brighton.

Green councillor Georgia Wrighton asked for the application to be considered by Brighton and Hove City Councils planning committee because it is the first of its kind.

Three neighbours have objected to the environmentally-friendly scheme saying the 1.7m turbine would be noisy and inappropriate in the residential area.

Mr Howarth is also behind Stanmer Park's Earthship, and is hoping to build a second green housing development at Brighton Marina.

He said: "There's an awful lot of talk in Brighton and Hove about using these technologies so if it gets turned down I will be fairly disappointed.

"It is tucked away at the back of the house and it doesn't have a controversial appearance or design. If we can't have it here where can we have it?"

The application, recommended for approval, will be discussed by councillors at Hove Town Hall in Norton Road, Hove, tomorrow.
