Seafront businesses are losing money because of bad weather, protracted roadworks and other factors. If Brighton and Hove had a mayor, quick action could have been taken, such as suspending parking charges on the seafront until the weather improved and the holes were filled in.
The bays along the seafront are heavily under-used. Even a small increase in usage could have helped seafront trade.
Road pricing is only justified if there are more potential users than spaces, which hasn't been the case on the seafront for the past six months.
