A couple have been found dead after a suspected murder and suicide.

Sussex police refused to give exact details about how the couple died but officers said one of the pair committed suicide after killing the other.

Police also confirmed they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Neighbours reported hearing what they believed was the couple rowing in the run up to the incident.

Paul Courtney, 32, from Cornfield Terrace, Eastbourne, was found dead with Jessie McLaughlin, 31, at Miss McLaughlin's home in Reginald Road, Bexhill.

Police released details yesterday, three days after the incident on Friday.

Yesterday, forensic police kept the home, at the rear of a cluster of flats at the south end of Reginald Road, sealed off.

Scenes of crime officers were painstakingly hunting for clues in a bid to piece together what happened.

Officers were called to the house at 11.45am on Friday but it is not yet known who discovered the couple's bodies or if a weapon was involved in the suspected murder.

Neighbours said they were shocked by news of such a violent death in their street.

One said: "There is often a lot of shouting coming from the flats and I noticed shouting on that morning more than most.

"It did seem to be coming from the rear of the flats where she lived."

Another neighbour said she heard a woman's voice shouting and doors slamming.

She said: "We have the police down this road for a lot of reasons and on a few occasions it has been sealed off.

"I noticed that morning that shouting was coming from the flats but didn't really think anything more of it. Next thing I knew the police had arrived."
