Regarding your article about the impact of chain stores infiltrating The Lanes (The Argus, May 27), I believe the comments I made have been taken out of context.
In your article I am quoted as saying: "Many people were upset by the arrival of Ben & Jerry's".
However, what I actually said was: "Although some people were disappointed by the arrival of Ben & Jerry's, I do not believe chain stores to be a significant threat to the local Lanes traders as both the size of the outlets and the level of footfall is too small for most chains to consider, when compared to a High Street or shopping centre location."
With specific regard to Ben & Jerry's, this outlet is owned by an individual trader (like the vast majority of the Lanes shops) and such a shop can only encourage people to visit this area, from which we will all benefit.
