David Norris has been told to grab his double chance to stake a World Cup claim.

Norris is a certain starter in Eastbourne Eagles' home and away tussles with Reading Bulldogs.

Eagles boss Jon Cook reckons Norris can impress Great Britain boss Neil Middleditch by scoring heavily when the teams meet at Arlington on Saturday.

He can do himself an even bigger favour if he turns it on in the return at Reading on Monday.

The somewhat ramshackle Smallmead stadium is the venue for the World Cup final on July 22 and the race off two nights earlier, involving second and third-placed teams from the two semi-finals.

Team GB are unlikely to go straight into the final given their semi is in Poland, who are the current champions.

Cook said: "I would love to see David in the World Cup and if he has a good meeting at Reading, why not?

"A good performance on Monday will keep him in Neil Middleditch's mind and give him a great chance of being in the World Cup. That would be a dream come true for him."

Cook has revealed he fancies a Knockout Cup showdown with Poole for his improving Eagles.

Eagles are the first team through to the semi-finals after completing a 27-point aggregate thrashing of Wolves on Monday.

The Eagles promoter said: "Having beaten one of our arch rivals in Wolves, it would be a pleasure to do the same to Poole. That would be a mouthwatering tie and would create a lot of interest.

"But we are confident whoever we face, although preferably we won't have to go up to Belle Vue.

"The key thing in the Cup is that Swindon and Peterborough are already out. They are the two teams with the biggest home track advantage."

Poole thumped Reading 58-34 in the first leg of their quarter-final at Wimborne Road last night as Grzegorz Walasek had a paid maximum 16+2.
