Chart-topper Lily Allen delighted clubbers with a surprise secret gig.

Anyone who bought a copy of the pop sensation's new album from record shops in Brighton was given an invitation to the intimate concert at Brighton's Audio nightclub on Thursday night.

It is the latest in a series of no-publicity appearances from top stars at the club in recent months.

Audio has a deal with the record label EMI as a venue for gigs when artists release new albums.

Allen, 21, whose debut single Smile is at number one in the charts for the second week running, belted out tracks from her album Alright Still during the hour-long show.

Promoter Andrew van Ginneken said: "It was brilliant. There is a lot of excitement and hype about Lily in the music scene at the moment and there was a real buzz in the venue before she came on.

"She lived up to it and pulled out a great performance. It was great for the audience to see her in such a small venue because she is going to get very big. She is new to the game and has only been performing live for a couple of months but that didn't show."
