A decision on the future of a new marina has been put off for a second time.

Councillors were expected to agree plans for the redevelopment of Lady Bee Marina at Southwick.

The new marina will create up to 1,000 jobs and will have leisure, business and retail outlets including restaurants and a shopping piazza.

But a decision was deferred for a second time on Monday night because of continued concerns about traffic and parking.

Adur District Council's planning committee had already put the project on hold in June.

Councillors asked for an investigation into the effects of traffic on the A259 coast road and surrounding streets.

People living in Southwick Street and Station Road are against the scheme and fear an increase in traffic and parking from people using the marina.

Brighton and Hove City Council also objects to the Shoreham Port Authority plans because of the impact the extra traffic could have in Hove.

The authority carried out a traffic impact survey and will be asked to give more than £335,000 towards traffic improvements in the area.

Jim Funnell, councillor for Eastbrook ward in Southwick, said: "Overall, I think we are in favour of seeing progress at Lady Bee.

"But there is a lot of concern about the impact of traffic and parking in the area.

"We have deferred a decision and asked council officers to go back and liaise with the Port Authority on how to resolve these concerns."
