Peace activists have been out in force on a march against the threat of nuclear war and the possession of nuclear weapons.
The Flame of Hope was carried from Worthing to Littlehampton by campaigners from Brighton, Worthing and Crawley.
Reverend John Chitham of St Matthew's Church in Tarring, Ian Ross, the Labour Party candidate for West Worthing, and George Farebrother of Abolition 2000 spoke of the need for the world powers to give up nuclear weapons as a first step to world peace. The torch has been carried from Dover and will be carried on from Littlehampton to Portsmouth. The Flame of Hope is being carried around the world from Hiroshima to New York.
