Sussex Police launch Facebook party crackdown

Police have launched a crackdown on outdoor parties being organised on Facebook.

As part of the countywide campaign, officers are pledging to break up a Shoreham rave currently being advertised on the social networking site.

As many as 300 people have been invited to the gathering at Adur Recreation Ground in Brighton Road, Shoreham, next weekend (April 30/May 1).

Officers say similar unofficial events last year left sports fields covered in litter and broken glass.

They are warning they will break up the party, confiscating alcohol and fining troublemakers.

Inspector Chris Smith, of Sussex Police, said: “We are aware of it. We will be putting our resources in place to make sure this party does not go ahead.

“Last year they left rubbish, smashed bottles, and caused damage.

“I’d urge all parents to be aware of what their child is doing on April 30 or May 1.”

Up to 100 youngsters, many aged between 13 and 18, were reported to be arranging mass gatherings in Shoreham and Lancing at the end of last summer.

Those pesky meddling kids, whatever next ? Perhaps if there was something organised to do outdoors that wasn't funded by the big Brighton corporate event organisers and didn't cost the Earth maybe there wouldn't be such a problem with it. why not get a few people together, give them a license and run the event properly with some rubbish clearing afterwards rather than wasting police doughnut time.

This is nothing new. In my day it was just harder to keep your ear to the ground and know where the party was actually at. Wrongfooting the police must be much easier these days - just stick up the dummy location on Facebook, no ?

Are they going to stop dogging arranged on the internet as well? It is about time.

I suppose that Inspector Smith was never invited to any parties when he was young. It explains why he joined the police. If he can't join the party, nobody can. Typical selfish mentality.

Those pesky kids always having orgies in my garden! I think we should lock them all up so they cant drop some litter and so that real criminals, like thieves and frauds, don't get caught and punished!

It's ridiculous what these children are doing! One night i came through the door and found one of them having sexual intercourse with my wife, and he didn't even give me any pointers on how to please her, because i struggle. Another night i heard a noise outside my door and these youths were dumping in my bins! Can a man not masturbate in private?! The police must stop them!

The police complain about this all the time with us kids. When actually, yes there is around 100 of us, BUT you will find around 5 people drinking? If the police are finding this such an issue they should take it up with the local council and actually give us something to do on the weekends that's inside and isn't, apparently harmful to the local residents. I just wish all the adults would stop complaining at us when really were doing no harm AT ALL. Were just getting together to see friends from other schools and to have a good time. You have to think of it from our point of view.. Were not old enough to go to clubs. bars etc. we have NOTHING to do around this area so i say again do something productive about it that will solve the problem not just move us on to a different location because that's not going to do ANYTHING, for many weekends to come.
