Police have launched a crackdown on outdoor parties being organised on Facebook.

As part of the countywide campaign, officers are pledging to break up a Shoreham rave currently being advertised on the social networking site.

As many as 300 people have been invited to the gathering at Adur Recreation Ground in Brighton Road, Shoreham, next weekend (April 30/May 1).

Officers say similar unofficial events last year left sports fields covered in litter and broken glass.

They are warning they will break up the party, confiscating alcohol and fining troublemakers.

Inspector Chris Smith, of Sussex Police, said: “We are aware of it. We will be putting our resources in place to make sure this party does not go ahead.

“Last year they left rubbish, smashed bottles, and caused damage.

“I’d urge all parents to be aware of what their child is doing on April 30 or May 1.”

Up to 100 youngsters, many aged between 13 and 18, were reported to be arranging mass gatherings in Shoreham and Lancing at the end of last summer.
