Police closed down a rave in a Sussex field.

Officers were called to land at Fittleworth, near Pulborough, at about 3am on Sunday.

Sound equipment and a stage had been set up.

Sussex Police said in a statement: "The organisers were spoken to by police and directed to leave the land; due to the small numbers that were in attendance, together with the prompt police response, officers were able to interact with the group and the organisers dismantled their equipment and left the area."

Chief Inspector Ali Darge, Sussex Police's district commander for Chichester, said: "The early notification of the rave enabled Sussex Police to respond quickly and restore peace to the local area.

"It is important that we send a clear message to anyone considering holding a rave that it will not be tolerated and anyone organising such an event will risk prosecution and their vehicles and equipment being confiscated."
