Three men have been arrested over an alleged gang rape.

The attack at a Bognor bus stop is being investigated by Sussex Police’s major crime branch with inquiries focusing on the town’s migrant community.

Three Eastern European men were arrested on Friday night and have been released on bail until June.

The attack took place in Chichester Road, Bognor, shortly before 3.50am on Sunday, April 25.

An 18-year-old woman flagged down a car and said she had been attacked by three men behind a bus shelter.

Two of the suspects were described as in their early 20s, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in, one slim and one medium build.

The third man was described as 6ft 2in or 6ft 3in, slim, with pointed features. All were wearing casual clothes.

Ch Insp Jim Bartlett, district policing commander for Arun, said in a statement: "This was a nasty and unpleasant attack on a young woman on her way home after an evening out.

“I do not wish to raise alarm, as the nature of the incident is unusual in the area, but I would ask everyone to consider their personal safety at all times and especially when there are fewer people around later at night."

Police are working with the Arun Expanded Communities Team to gather information among the migrant worker community in the area.

The major crime branch is also investigating a “stranger rape” in Chichester on Saturday night.

A woman in her 30s reported she was attacked in the street in the Parklands area at about 11.30pm.

Sussex Police have not published the exact location because of concerns for the welfare of the woman.

A 17-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards and was being questioned in custody last night.

Police were going door-to-door in the area to gather evidence yesterday.

Anyone with information about either attack is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999, quoting Operation Keele for the Bognor attack. To pass information anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
