A hospital could be forced to axe up to 40 jobs as part of a move to save £2 million.
Managers at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead have launched a two month consultation with staff on plans to change working practices.
The hospital provides specialist burns and plastic surgery services across Sussex, Surrey and Kent.
It also runs community services for people in the East Grinstead area.
Managers at the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said that like all NHS organisations it was preparing for an expected dip in central funding over the next year while still being asked to save money.
Hospitals and primary care trusts across Sussex are planning to make £100 million worth of savings over the next 12 months, sparking fears of potential future job losses.
Any jobs that go at the Queen Victoria are expected to come through managerial and administration positions and not front line services.
The changes are also expected to put the trust's long term redevelopment plans on hold.
The trust said it hoped to avoid compulsory redundancies.
