A man broke into his former girlfriend’s home and used a knife to cut up her basque.
Louis Jameson-Card, 22, was upset after the woman, who dumped him, revealed she had sex with another man wearing the black and pink lace garment he gave her for Christmas.
Jameson-Card and his friend, Ryan Dobbie, 21, went together to her flat in St Mary’s Close, Littlehampton, in January while she was out. Three knives were later found in the flat.
Days later they both went to the home of a man in St John’s Mount, Brighton, armed with pool cues because Jameson-Card blamed him for the break-up with his girlfriend.
But when they arrived they discovered the man they were looking for was out and after making threats about him to his friends they left.
At Lewes Crown Court both men, who were living at the time in a hostel in Seafield Road, Hove, admitted burglary and aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
Jameson-Card also admitted smashing glass doors in communal areas in the block of flats in Brighton and possessing a bladed article when he went to the flat in Littlehampton.
They were both jailed for two-and-a-half years for the offences. Dobbie was sentenced to a further six months for breaching a previous suspended sentence imposed for assault.
Judge Richard Brown told them: “These offences are so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified.”
James McPherson, defending Jameson-Card, who has no previous convictions, said: “He purchased the underwear for her as a Christmas present. He was particularly riled after she said she had slept with someone else while wearing the garment.”
Rhodri James, defending Dobbie, said: “This was not his dispute and he should have stayed well clear. He realises his misplaced loyalty to his friend will result in him being incarcerated.”
