A woman was killed by a train near Hastings this morning.

British Transport Police were called to a spot at River Hall, between Battle and Robertsbridge, at 5.44am.

Police said a person had been hit by the 5.15am train from Hastings to Charing Cross.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The identity of the person killed has not yet been released but it is understood the casualty was a woman.

Rail company Southeastern put on replacement bus services between Robertsbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
