I think Albion chairman Tony Bloom is quite right in wanting Albion manager Gus Poyet to launch a new era of stability at the Albion by signing the long-term contract on offer at the club.

He has done so much to improve the fortunes on the pitch, successfully saving us from relegation and finishing in a respectable position in League 1 (The Argus, May 15).

Inevitably, his great management skills and success has attracted other clubs to show an interest in him, Portsmouth for example, but there is great potential at the Albion. Poyet would be far better off staying at the club that is moving into a brand new stadium at Falmer next season and has financial security thanks to Tony Bloom.

Although Poyet is currently in South America, I hope he will sign the four-year deal that is on offer when he returns. I am sure that, if he stays, his assistant Mauricio Tarrico will stay too.

I agree with Mr Bloom that having had 12 managers since Albion left the Goldstone Ground is not good and is not the right way to go for a stable and optimistic future.

I do not think that continually changing managers has done the Albion any good. It does not bring stability within the club or inspire great confidence, which is very important if we are to have a successful, ambitious club.

I am delighted that Mr Bloom has given Poyet the freedom to do things his own way while managing the Seagulls, which will give him, I am sure, great encouragement to stay.
