A 21-year-old man found unconscious with head injuries on the street is believed to have been there for almost an hour before he was found.
He was found by a member of the public on the pavement at 5.45am yesterday, near the junction of Ship Street and Dukes Lane, Brighton.
CCTV footage has been reviewed by police who believe the man may have given the appearance to passers by that he was asleep.
Police are keeping an open mind regarding how the man suffered his injuries but have not ruled out the possibility he was assaulted. He is being treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
If anyone has more information or saw the man on the ground before he was found, contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999, quoting serial 142 of May 18.
