I read that Rottingdean Village (The Argus, May 13) won the Vernon Wentworth Cup, and it was nice to know this trophy was still being played for.
I was running St Barnabas FC in 1940, and because there were so few teams at that time due to the Second World War, it was decided to play it as a league, each team playing each other home and away.
The other teams were Allen West, Portslade St Andrews, Brighton Banks and Brighton Insurance.
As far as I can recall the trophy was won by Brighton Insurance, and my own team were the runners-up.
