As a past resident of the Elm Grove and Hanover area, I wish them every success in their opposition to the parking scheme.
But if past opposition to these schemes is anything to go by, Elm Grove will be on Brighton and Hove City Council payroll sooner than later.
The council has railroaded through Poets Corner, London Road and areas of Dyke Road, even though the residents in those areas did not wish to have residents’ parking bays and parking meters.
This is the moneyspinner the council has flooded the city with, bringing in large profits and even increasing parking charges along the way. These charges will no doubt be increased along with rates.
When you are living so far from the town centre, you don’t expect to pay £1-plus to park near your own home.
I know it’s easy for me to say, but the time has come to tell the council enough is enough.
I think this is pure greed by the council. How business people in the city keep their heads above water with the vast parking charges is beyond me.
