A cyclist rode the wrong way along a dual carriageway in the dark.
Sussex Police stopped the 30-year-old in Golden Jubilee Way, Eastbourne.
He was arrested and cautioned for carrying an offensive weapon after he was found to be carrying a lock knife.
The man was stopped late in the evening last Wednesday and police decided to release the details as a safety message.
Insp Steve Grace from Sussex Police said: "It is an offence to be drunk in charge of a pedal cycle and while this gentleman himself was most at risk, he could easily have caused a much more serious incident.
"We've suggested that he might like to put his sensible head on before mixing drinking and cycling in the future – that's the same advice that we give to any road user, be they on foot or wheels."
