Thousands of parents across the city have taken part in a scheme to save for their children’s future.

Figures show the take-up of the Government sponsored Child Trust Fund (CTF) in Brighton and Hove was among the highest in the country.

Sussex experts claim after a small drop in take-up across Sussex, more mums and dads are now rushing to cash the £250 vouchers before the scheme falls victim to budget cuts.

Four in five parents who received the vouchers sent out by the government used them to start up a child trust fund – compared to the national average of three in four parents.

Last year 5,831 CTF vouchers were sent to parents in the city.

Of those, 4,702 vouchers have been used to open an account for their children.
