I noted with dismay that John Barradell, Brighton and Hove City Council’s chief executive, is paid £30,000 more than the Prime Minister.
The council is also recruiting four “Strategic Directors” at £125,000 each and their jobs do not even include managing departments. Does this council live in a fantasy world? The message at present is save, not spend.
This council has a duty of care to the citizens of Brighton and Hove and yet decided to save money by not putting sand/grit on the main thoroughfares during the cold spell last January.
I personally fell on the ice in Western Road and broke my wrist in three places. A & E was full of people with broken bones at the time, and at what cost to the NHS?
As council tax has gone up this year, our taxes should be spent on essential services, not on outrageous salaries of council members.
