Grand Avenue in Hove certainly lived up to its name early last century. This undated picture looking south shows landscaped lawns on each side of the street and young trees.

The large building on the corner of the seafront is now known as King’s House and is the headquarters of Brighton and Hove City Council.

But before that it was the headquarters of the electricity undertaking Seeboard and at the time of this picture, it was an imposing hotel.

Flats, mainly dating from the 1960s and 1970s, have disfigured the road since then but more on the west side than the east.
