With regard to recent correspondence concerning the organ in the Brighton Dome Concert Hall (Letters, June 11), spare a thought for Michael Maine who for years was responsible, with other colleagues, for the refurbishment of this wonderful instrument.

He gave several memorable performances with other well-known organists, who demonstrated the wide ranging features of the organ. These events are sadly missed.

The Brighton And Hove Philharmonic Society has used the organ on numerous occasions since 2002 and hopefully will continue to do so. All is not lost, so obtain details of future concerts from the society and enjoy the splendour of this unique instrument.

A very kind friend of mine sent me some cuttings from The Argus regarding the future of the Dome organ.

I was very impressed by the letter from Eileen Pearson (Letters, June 11) and agree with everything she wrote.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Douglas Reeve in 1945 when I used to dance in the Dome on Saturday evenings – non-stop dancing with Douglas at the organ and a live band and Douglas’s wife singing.

After the war, my son and family moved to Burgess Hill and I was able to get to the Dome on many occasions to hear the wonderful Douglas and the beautiful Dome organ.

Douglas was a master of music and gave much pleasure to those who either saw him or listened to him on the radio.

I now appeal to Brighton And Hove City Council to use this wonderful organ in the way Douglas did.

There are many brilliant organists around who would be pleased to receive an invitation to the Dome.

Please give this appeal a big think.
