New junction boxes may be soon appearing in your street, if BT rolls out its plans for super-fast Broadband street to the east of the city.

Over 70 new cabinets, 5’3” tall, 4’ wide and 18’ deep (in new money, 1.6m by 1.2m width by .4m depth) have been planned for Central Brighton and Hove. Some have been ear-marked to replace existing ones, including those which have been recently embellished by the graffiti expert Cassette Lord.

The green (sic) cabinets are designed to accommodate components in one service device including power system and monitoring module, cooling unit and battery. They are to be located away from the centre of the pavement (obviously) in order not to impede pedestrian access.

Given the height of these new boxes, they should be eminently useful for advertising or tasteful kosher graffiti.
