I think Brighton will have to offer more to attract visitors if it wants to beat Blackpool as the number one tourist resort (The Argus, June 18).
Blackpool has three piers, donkey rides, sandy beaches, trams, covered markets, the Golden Mile and Pleasure Beach, plus the Tower with a zoo, beautiful ballroom and the Wurlitzer Organ. I believe it also has an ice-rink, lots of summer shows and the amazing Blackpool lights, alongside many more items.
Brighton has the Royal Pavilion, Sea-Life Centre, one pier, the lovely Volk’s Railway – and what else?
Why can’t the Dome organ be used for a weekly summer singalong? Eastbourne and Worthing both have the talented John Mann to give shows. Surely after its recent refurbishment, it cannot be left to rot? Is it not the finest instrument in the country?
I was born in Brighton and lived there until ten years ago but find it very expensive for shows or restaurants now.
