An 84-year-old woman has died following a road accident.

The car the woman was driving collided with another vehicle at the junction of Hindleap Lane and Legsheath Lane near Forest Row at around 2pm this afternoon.

The woman was airlifted to Royal London Hospital, London but died later from her injuries.

A 50-year-old man from South London is being treated for injuries at East Surrey Hospital, Redhill but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

Sergeant Phil Duffy of the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit at Polegate said; "The two roads have had to be closed for several hours to make sure this tragic incident can be fully investigated.

"There has been traffic congestion as a result and we are grateful for drivers' patience and understanding during this period."

Police are seeking witnesses to the collision, and anyone who can assist is asked to contact via 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Rowberry.
