Organisers of the Woodingdean Carnival yesterday described it as “possibly the best ever”, thanks largely to the weather.
Brighton and Hove mayor Geoff Wells jokingly took the credit for the sunshine.
The carnival kicked off with a procession from Woodingdean Central Park, in Rudyard Road, making its way through The Ridgway, Warren Way and Warren Road, before finishing up at Woodingdean Primary School for the rest of the afternoon's entertainment.

The crowds came out to watch performances from Newhaven Marching Band, Rondo the Magic Clown, Brighton School of Singing and Woodingdean's Japanese Martial Arts group.
This year's carnival queen, Lillie Magee, and carnival princess Rosie Soltani led the procession.
Lillie, 15, of Langley Crescent, Woodingdean, said: “My favourite things were driving in the car and giving the Royal wave. We've been giving out prizes and judging the competitions. It's been a real honour.”
Rosie, 11, of Willow Close, Woodingdean, added: “It has been a lot of fun getting dressed up and putting the crown on. My favourite thing was meeting the mayor.”
Proceeds from the carnival will go towards the cost of repairing Woodingdean Swimming Pool. It is hoped the event will have raised about £3,000, but the exact total raised is not yet known.
