Students will debate whether to officially support the campaign for justice for Guantanamo bay detainee Omar Deghayes.
At the University of Sussex's Student Union's AGM next week, a motion will be debated which includes a resolution to support his case and raise awareness of it on campus.
The motion also raises concerns about the recent Government vote to increase the allowed number of days terrorist suspects can be held without charge to 28 days and asks the union to resolve: "To condemn all attempts to undermine the long upheld traditions of British civil liberties."
Mr Deghayes, a 36-year-old law graduate from Saltdean, has been held under no charge at Guantanamo Bay for three years.
University of Sussex student and Brighton and Hove Muslim Forum member Daoud Clarke will present his case to the union at the meeting next Thursday.
