Hunt for Brighton council bosses cost £120,000

The controversial hunt for four council bosses cost taxpayers more than £120,000.

Brighton and Hove City Council stumped up the sum in its search for four strategic directors.

The amount, which would nearly pay the £125,000 annual wages of one of the new employees, included £14,000 for the controversial “Say No to Status Quo” website.

Critics have criticised the council for spending the sum when it faces cutting hundreds of jobs and at least £45 million of savings in the next three years.

But the local authority defended the amount claiming it represented a “substantial long-term” investment.

Full report in today's Argus.

It is a pity that there is nothing in this report to explain how a £14,000 advert ended up costing the taxpayers almost 10 times this amount. It is just unbelievable! How long will it be before this "investment" produces a return for the city? It is time the "new recruits" told us what they intend to do to justify their positions. How about the Argus giving them a page each to explain how they intend to make the savings?

How dare they say it's a long term investment.

The Argus should ask the council to divulge exactly how many chief execs and directors have been recruited and paid off in the last 15 years.

If they reply honestly they should then asked to explain why they think this lot will hang around longer than convenient to further their career. The others certainly haven't

Maybe they should employ a director of wasting public money.
It seems that as the cuts hit the poorest people in this country, B&H Council just cant think of enough ways to spend money with nothing tangible to show for it.
How about building some council homes with the money they waste on non-jobs?
That would bring in rent, create many jobs, and home the homeless.

We have the Council we deserve....We have the Government too...Wait till October...You will see what 'Austerity' means. From Social Services to Dustbin men, From Library and Roads to Parks ...Community projects. Less Police too, which should at least get the detection rate up..they will not be able to hide in the Force.

I assure you all that the excess's of BHCC will pale into the mist when compared to the excess's that take place at CityClean. Watch this space.

So it cost £120k to recruit but how much in pay offs and compensation has it cost too after terminating 4 senior managers who will claim that isn't hard to get another job due to the market etc etc.

You can bet there pensions have had a top up as well as a year or so salary.

Wait, you can hunt council bosses, but not foxes?
.
Is there a limit? Is the fee £120,000 each? Can a bunch of us pool our money?

The real question here is how come this enormous figure is so much greater than the one they gave us originally.

Can I apply? What are the criteria? What are the essentials, because I've got IT & keyboard skills. I'm sh1t-hot at prioritising, my filing is perfect, my customer care skills are excellent, I liaise with other agencies wonderfully & have great people skills.
Is that enough? I can talk boIIox & **** thousands of pounds, if that's needed.

So if true that's £120,000 on top of the £500,000 to sack Alan McCarthy plus up to £1,000,000 to pay off the 3 recently sacked directors and now apparently another one who already had another job:the bill/unnecessary extra cuts tally just keeps mounting.
