Lifeboats were called into service within an hour of each other on Tuesday night.
RNLI’s Eastbourne all-weather lifeboat was launched at 5.45pm in response to calls for help from a disabled motor cruiser with two persons on board which had suffered mechanical failure three miles from Sovereign Harbour.
The 50 foot vessel, which weighed 31 tonnes, was then slowly taken into the harbour.
Meanwhile, off Beachy Head, an open angling boat with one person on board had broken down and was drifting with the tide.
Eastbourne’s inshore lifeboat was launched at 6.50pm and crew members successfully restarted the outboard engine.
